About the
PSP Studio
The
Beginning
Although she has worked in
oil-on-canvas and china paints on majolica, Penny Sanford found
her true calling in porcelain sculpture. The story that evolved
from pre-med major to broadcast journalist to sculptress is a quirky
little story of discovery and faith. Click

The Inspiration
Penny was working alone in
her studio one summer day in 1994 when the concept for Nature's
Angels "was just THERE, complete, the whole concept, instantly
in my head, " Penny said. "It wasn't a brain-storming
session. It was so immediate, so instant. Everything from the name,
Nature's Angels, to the first six designs, to the packaging and
brochures appeared instantly in my mind."
Penny attributes this epiphany to God. As a result of this gift
of inspiration from God, she has grown in her faith and her commitment
to God's direction for her life. Click

About
the Artist
Penny graduated from Mississippi State University in 1983 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in general science with emphasis in biology
and communication. She worked in broadcast journalism until 1991
when, at her father's death, she returned to the family farm in
Kilmichael, MS.
Having grown up on the farm and filled with the collected life lessons
and stories of generations, this Mississippi daughter knew that
her first love would always be the land of her ancestors. That connection
to the soil and the beauty of God's creation would always be her
source of happiness, but she was destined not be a farmer. The path
ahead of her in 1991, had some unexpected turns in store. Click

Nature's
Angels
Nature's Angels were Penny's
first original designs in porcelain. Based on the beauty of the
landscape surrounding her historic home, these designs incorporate
an angel into a ornament depicting the many varieties of leaves
and flowers that inspire her.
"When a tree bows and scrapes in the fierce winds of an approaching
storm or when leaves flutter ever so softly from a whisper of wind,
is that truly the wind, or is an angel passing by," Penny asks.
The visualization of angels standing guard around us and of God's
steadfast presence is what inspires the designs of Penny's Nature's
Angels.
Portraits
in Porcelain
In 1998, Mississippi First Lady Pat Fordice commissioned Penny to
create a porcelain ornament depicting the facade of the historic
Governor's Mansion in Jackson, MS, that she would use as a representative
gift from Mississippi. The success of this private commission prompted
a new line of designs from the PSP Studio, Portraits in Porcelain(TM).
The first Portrait in Porcelain available to the general public
is "Rosalie Mansion", depicting the 1820 National Historic
Landmark overlooking the Mississippi River in Natchez, MS. Owned
by the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution,
the sale of this ornament goes to the preservation of this stunning
beauty of Natchez, which has a history as rich as the brocades and
silks that decorate her authentically restored rooms and grounds.

The
Jewelry Collection
When collectors began asking
for Penny's designs in smaller sizes for jewelry, she created diminutive
versions of some of the most requested designs. This collection
of brooches and necklaces continues to grow, and earrings will be
the next addition to the Penny Sanford Porcelains Jewelry
Collection. |
